Prevention is Better Than Cure

Diabetes and Hypertension Awareness Foundation (DHAF) is a nonprofit charitable organization that has TIN#, 501c(3) tax exempt benefit that began with a vision to increase health awareness and provide primary care services to prevent life-threatening health conditions.

What Does DHAF Do?

Health Education

Prevention is Better Than Cure

DHAF provides health education to the local community with the aim to increase health literacy and improve preventative healthcare measures. Health education materials and supplies are available at the DHAF clinic and educational lectures are hosted by DHAF physicians and providers

Activities

1. DHAF has started with basic diagnostic testing lab, ultrasound, ECG, and is being run by one full time MBBS and one part time Medicine Specialist FCPS doctors, lab technician, and MAT, nurse with a team of 8 ancillary staff.

2. DHAF also provides poor senior citizens allowance of $20/month towards their basic needs.

3. DHAF contribute stipend/scholarships for brilliant but poor students at the high school level.

4. DHAF also provides support (meals, clothing, shelter, etc) for orphans in an impoverished community.

Health Screenings

Early detection is essential for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension and diabetes to prevent further complication. DHAF provides screening service for the local community in Tangail, Bangladesh. If a person is identified to have diabetes, hypertension, or is at risk for these diseases, they are connected with health programs at the DHAF clinic for further management and referral to appropriate consultants and hospital for their best care.

Community Support

DHAF’s involvement in the local community extends beyond the clinic. DHAF provides support to the senior citizens of Tangail (in the form of monetary and food support). Community support was additionally increased during the COVID-19 pandemic where DHAF provided monetary support, food, and PPE supplies to the community.

DHAF Timeline

  • DHAF Founding

    DHAF’s opening ceremony was held on December 20, 2019. DHAF hosted a healthcare awareness program where over 700 patients were seen in 5 days. Patients were provided with blood sugar and blood pressure screenings and health consultations.

  • Community Health Care

    Throughout 2020 DHAF provided healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic. DHAF additionally completed a community survey, collecting rates of diabetes and hypertension in Tangail and connecting patients with these conditions to health services at the DHAF clinic.

  • Our New Space

    As DHAF’s impact on the community Tangail continued to expand a larger clinic space was needed. in February 2020 construction was started on the new clinic building, with ongoing additions being added!

COVID-19 Response

During the COVID-19 pandemic, DHAF provided the local community of Tangail with invaluable material and educational resources.

As an integrated community health center, DHAF provided

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including masks

  • Daily food

  • Education re: Covid-19 and up-to-date recommendations

Community Education

Health literacy and preventative healthcare are key components of DHAF’s mission. DHAF provides education to the local community via lectures, informational materials, and opportunities to answer questions at the DHAF clinic.

Support for the Senior Community

DHAF is committed to supporting the elderly community in Tangail, Bangladesh

In addition to the preventative health care and education resources provided by DHAF, specific programs have been developed to support the elderly community including:
